Tierney takes star-spangled Arnold Mills

Two years ago, Colin Tierney came in third place at the Arnold Mills Four-Mile Road Race. Last year, the recent Bishop Hendricken graduate and freshman-to-be at Columbia University crossed the finish line right behind the event’s winner, Brian Doyle, the son of former Ocean State marathon great Bobby Doyle.

On his third try, Tierney finally broke through and grabbed the brass ring on a humid, overcast Fourth of July morning.

The 18-year-old Tierney was all smiles after posting a solid winning time of 20:23. The son of Cumberland High alumnus Scott Tierney (Class of ’84) and part of a family with deep roots in Pawtucket, Colin used the final 800 meters or so to make his move and break away in a star-studded leading foursome – Eric Lonergan, Trevor Crawley and Connor Doyle.
