WOONSOCKET — Just as many had a year ago for another friend, the friends of Simon Ratsamy, 21, of Woonsocket, gathered to remember him Thursday at the place where he worked and was well known to customers and friends — R.J’s Hill Liquors, 820 Cumberland Hill Road.
A group of over 100 people circled an area of candles and tributes to Simon in the store’s parking lot a day after he was killed in a stunning car wreck on Route 99 southbound, nearly a year to the day of a Burillville accident claiming the lives of his friends, Shannon Heil of Woonsocket and Markell Torres of Easthampton, Mass.
Ratsamy had been a passenger in a Subaru Impreza driven by Aarron M. Harmon, 22, of Bellingham, who remained in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital as of Friday evening. The gathering at R.J. Hill Liquors was organized by Simon’s girlfriend, Nicole Poor, as a way to help the group cope with his loss. Poor was a friend of Shannon’s and had been involved at a vigil for her held at Superior Cheer on Main Street after her death.
“Everybody just pulled together to help each other out,” Poor said of the candlelit remembrance.
