Mary Gauthier

NO. SMITHFIELD - Mary Gauthier, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield, R.I. Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the beloved daughter of Antonio and Maria Mello. Mary was always the apple of her father's eye, and why not? She was always a glass half-full person who loved people and was loved in return.
Mary was the widow of Amedee A. Gauthier, Jr., to whom she was married for thirty-nine years. They are survived by daughter Diane Durand and husband Richard, daughter Doreen Ezovski and husband Gary, grandchildren Joshua, Jessica, and Matthew, and one great-grandchild, Lucy.
Mary was a loving wife and mother who relished caring for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing, even winning a jitterbug contest as a young woman. Additionally, Mary was a wonderful baker whose desserts were a magnet for her children's friends. She was passionate about her work as a salesperson at Roberts Department Store in Woonsocket, R.I. She loved working with teenagers who would recognize her years later as the woman who influenced their fashion choices.
In 2005 Mary married her longtime friend Joseph Azevedo, adding stepdaughter Linda Lafrance and her children and grandchildren to the family. Mary and Joe have remained inseparable ever since.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 9 AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be offered on Tuesday, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Ghost Society of North Smithfield, PO Box 33, Forestdale, RI 02824.
