BURRILLVILLE -- For participants and fans alike, Monday night’s R.I. District IV Major Division (11-12) Tournament championship game was something like a Six Flags water slide – jam-packed with thrilling twists and turns, while getting everyone soaked.

The ride finally ended when Cumberland American’s number-three hitter, Jayden Struble, sliced an opposite-field three-run home run over the left-field fence with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to propel CALL to a 9-6 triumph over Lincoln.

“Baseball-wise, this was something else; in a game like this, with all the momentum swings, and then with it ending on a walk-off, no, I haven’t experienced anything like it,” said Dave Belisle, the head coach of the Cumberland American Little League All-Stars.

“This is the 12th time I’ve coached these All-Stars, and this is the best moment I’ve ever had.”
Although Struble’s smash decided the contest, there were plenty of heroics on both sides throughout the game, which was watched by a soggy but vocal crowd of more than 200 at Sherman Park.
