NS teacher charged with larceny

NORTH SMITHFIELD – The police arrested a North Smithfield Middle School teacher Thursday on charges of felony larceny for stealing nearly $7,000 from the School Department.

Brian Chuey, 29, of Cranston, is facing two counts of felony larceny for stealing $6,866 in cash, according to police, who released few other details.

Chuey last worked as a seventh-grade history teacher and has been employed by the school district since 2006, according to information he posted in a school-related blog.

A graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, he also serves as the middle school’s junior varsity boy’s basketball coach; the assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach; and the school’s head golf coach. He calls himself “a sports nut.”

“He’s one of my favorite teachers I’ve ever had,” one anonymous contributor to ratemyteachers.com posted last October. “He’s very fun.”
