Women Rock fundraiser to aid breast cancer research

July 26, 2014

WOONSOCKET – It was when a friend’s mother lost a fight with breast cancer that Sheri Delisle decided she wanted to do something to help find a cure and put on her first fundraiser with the help of friends three years ago.

The resulting Women Rock fundraiser at Cityside at Market Square brought in only about $400 the first year but set the stage for a growing effort to help the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

Last year’s fundraiser, sponsored by Delisle’s Financial Professional office with the Prudential Insurance Co., at 72 South Main St. in Bellingham, raised about $1,100 for Gloria Gemma and this year Delisle and her partner in the fundraiser, Christen McCarthy, hope to raise $1,500. McCarthy works for the Prudential office as does Delisle’s husband, Paul, and the business as taken on growing the fundraiser with the help of other volunteers such as Michelle Benonisen and Lisa Phillips.

The event will be held at Cityside again this year on Aug. 12, a Tuesday evening, and run from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The group will have both the downstairs and upstairs of Cityside for its showcase of participating vendors since the nightclub is opening on Tuesday just for the fundraiser.
