McGair: PC athletic director believes Big East's addition of TCU helps basketball schools

November 29, 2010

On a day in which the Big East Conference got even bigger with the addition of Texas Christian University, Providence athletic director Bob Driscoll feels the move can only serve as a boon for the basketball schools.
“I think (the addition of TCU) helps us because it solves some of the football issues,” said Driscoll. “Without it, it probably causes more stress. If Villanova goes in the director of major college football, then I think we’ll be in very good shape.
“You can’t foresee the future,” Driscoll continued, “but I just think in the short run that this will help the basketball schools to the extent that we keep that we keep the basketball conference in the nation together. The football schools value the basketball schools. If it was just a football conference, I’m not sure if it would be as powerful as it is right now.”
