WOONSOCKET- Helen M. (LaRue) Dixon, 89, of Pond St., died Friday, December 17, 2010 in The Friendly Home, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Dixon.
Born in Everett, MA, she was the daughter of the late Pierre and Margaret (Hansen) LaRue.
A 1939 graduate of Woonsocket High School, Mrs. Dixon worked for the Taft Pierce Company during WWII. Upon her marriage to her husband Joseph, she became a homemaker. She was a member, secretary and Head Deaconess of the former Universalist Church, Woonsocket and was also a former president of its Board of Trustees and member of the church's Senior Citizens Group. Helen was also a treasurer and president of the Association of Universalist for Women and a member of the Heart Center Program, Woonsocket.
She is survived by two daughters Sharon Dixon of Richmond and Celeste Steffancci of West Boylston, MA, two grandsons Colin and Eric Brodd and a great granddaughter, Victoria Brodd. She was the sister of the late Elmer and Alfred LaRue and Marie Newell.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 27, 2010 at 10:30AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Barton Center of Diabetes Education, Inc., 30 Ennis Road, North Oxford, MA 01537-0356 or Habitat for Humanity, 807 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02907.
