James F. Courtney

BELLINGHAM- James F. Courtney, 81, of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2010 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Bernice P. (Forsythe) Courtney.
He was the loving father of Linda D. Selima and her husband Charles of Woonsocket, RI, Sandra M. Courtney of Hopedale, MA, Teresa E. Sousa and her husband Anthony of Hudson, MA and Mary F. Courtney of Bellingham, MA; and his 10 cherished grandchildren.
A resident of Bellingham for 43 years formerly of Fitchburg, MA, where he was raised and attended various schools throughout the Boston area. He was a 20 year U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Courtney was an Air Traffic Controller and was the Tower Chief at the Martha's Vineyard Airport in 1984, the year of controversy and saved numerous air traffic controller jobs. He was an Assistant Tower Chief at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick retiring in 1986. He was a member of the A.A. Program for 37 years and helped many men gain sobriety. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 30, at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St., Bellingham. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, December 29, from 4 to 8PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to: General Service Office, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 459, New York, NY 10163.
