Martha Mowry Smith

WOONSOCKET- Martha Mowry Smith was blessed with energy and a loving spirit. These she gave freely and unconditionally to all. She was the mother that everyone wanted. "God is Love," she often said. This was a contract that she lived every day. She was a writer of family history, an enthusiastic piano player and a generous giver of joy. Her memory will be treasured in the hearts of many, many people.
Martha was born in Woonsocket and lived most of her 101 years in North Smithfield.
She was a lifetime member of Friends Meeting. Predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Chester Smith, she is survived by her four children, 13 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Her children are Nancy Ash of Barrington, Stuart Smith of Ponte Vedra Bch FL, Marcia Rust of Terra Alta WV, and Janice Milliken from Melbourne FL.
A memorial service is planned for Martha at Smithfield Friends Meeting, Saturday January 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to Smithfield Friends Meeting, 108 Smithfield Road, Woonsocket RI 02895 or to American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry St. Philadelphia PA 19102.
