COVENTRY - Edward E. Wethey Jr., 69, died Saturday January 8, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Bacon) Wethey. He was born on January 9, 1941 in Norristown, PA, a son of the late Edward E. Sr. and Ruth T. (McGuigan) Wethey and had been a resident of Coventry for the past ten years.
Mr. Wethey was a 1960 graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in PA and then went on to receive an Associates degree in electronics from Del-Vry and lastly a degree Magna Cum Laude in 1971 from CCRI. He joined the US Navy in 1960 during the Viet Nam War serving until his discharge in 1964 and began work for the US Rubber Co. in Woonsocket, RI. His career with the Woonsocket Fire Co. began in August of 1969 moved up in the ranks to Lieutenant, Captain, Training Director and then Deputy Chief in 1993 ending his distinguished career January 1965. Mr. Wethey was a communicant of SS John and Paul Church in Coventry, the International Association of Firefighters Local #732 in Woonsocket and the Woonsocket Firemans Relief Association
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Hanger of Portland, MO, Tracey Bonang of Greene, RI, three sons Christopher Wethey of Glendale, RI, Steven Hurteau of Edmond, OK, Glen Hurteau of Woonsocket, RI, ten grandchildren, Tyler, Katrina and Corey Hanger all of MO, Caitlin and Ryan Wethey of Glendale, RI, Nathan and Alex Hurteau of OK, Keith and Tyler Hurteau of Woonsocket, RI and MacKenzie Bonang of Greene, RI., three brothers Joseph Wethey of Lancaster, PA, Guy Wethey of Millsboro, SE, Michael Wethey of Norristown, PA, three sisters, Mariann Hanna of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, Martha Kenna and Edwina Greene both of West Conshohocken, PA and was the brother of the late William Wethey.
Funeral from the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, RI Tuesday January 11, 2011 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the SS John & Paul Church, South Main St., Coventry. Friends will be welcomed from 8:30AM to 9:30 AM at the funeral home prior to the Church Mass. Burial with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
