Herbert Wang

BOSTON, MA- WANG, Herbert "Herb" of Boston on January 10.
Born in Brooklyn, NY in February of 1927.
Loving husband of Arlene (Rosen) Wang since 1951.
Devoted father of three children: Scott Wang M.D. of Jamestown, RI and his wife Carol, Beth Nast of Wellesley, MA and her husband William, and David Wang of Medfield, MA and his wife Deborah. Proud grandfather of Joshua & Rachael Wang, Adam, Nathan & Jared Nast and Benjamin & Samuel Wang. Close brother-in-law of Bernard Margolis of Delray, FL.
During WWII, Herb was in the Army Special Training Program. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from CCNY and, after working for Lockheed in CA and Electric Boat in CT in 1954 together with a partner founded what was to become Tech Industries in Providence, RI. A classic entrepreneur, Herb reinvented his company several times to meet the changing needs of the marketplace. After a brief period servicing the jewelry industry with vacuum metalizing, Tech eventually moved to Woonsocket, RI with additional facilities in England, Ireland and Brazil. The company became a leading manufacturer and value-added finisher of plastic bottle caps, jar covers and jars primarily for the cosmetic, fragrance and toiletry industries. In 2003, Tech Industries was sold to Portola Packaging of San Jose, CA and became Portola Tech International.
Herb was a founding member of Temple Sinai in Cranston, RI and longtime resident of Newton, MA. He was a raconteur who enjoyed travel, sailing, woodworking and the occasional perfect Rob Roy on the rocks with a twist.
Funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army, CJP of Boston or any charity of your choice.
