Stephen Woodrow Mitchell, Sr.

HARRISVILLE- Stephen Woodrow Mitchell, Sr, 97, of West Ironstone Rd, formerly of No. Smithfield, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at home. He was the husband of the late Nancy V. (Brooks) Mitchell.
Born in Harrisville, he was the son of the late William Everett and Eunice (Richardson) Mitchell.
He worked thirty-six years as an Electrician for the former Blackstone Valley Electric Company, now National Grid, retiring in 1978. He was a member, served on the Board of Trustee's and was a Deacon of the former First Universalist Church, Woonsocket. also was a member of its Men's Club, Senior Citizens Club and Secretary of its Mr. & Mrs. Club. Mr. Mitchell was a Mason at the Morning Star Lodge, #13 F. & A.M., Woonsocket. Further, he was a member of the Burriville Historical Society, North Smithfield Senior Citizens, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Senior Citizens and Club 65.
He is survived by one son, Brian J. Mitchell and his wife, Ruth of Harrisville, two daughters, Kathleen L. O'Brien and her husband, Larry of Harrisville and Denice E. Mitchell of No. Smithfield, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Stephen W. Mitchell, Jr and brother of the late Homer Everett Mitchell.
His funeral service will be held Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11AM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 - 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alternative Adult Care, 84 Social Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 No. Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
