BV Tech's Downing earns prestigious college scholarship

February 6, 2011

UPTON – Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School senior and automotive technology student, Christopher Downing, is the recipient of the Senior Northwestern Technical Scholarship, a full tuition scholarship worth up to $25,000 from the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Downing also achieved a first-place finish in the Mass. Skills USA Automotive Technology Competition in March 2010, resulting in him being awarded an additional $10,000 scholarship from the university. The combined awards total $35,000 that may be applied to tuition costs throughout his enrollment.
To qualify for the Senior Northwestern Technical Scholarship, Downing participated in scholarship testing in the fall of 2010 at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Over 2,000 high school students participated in taking the written and multiple choice tests in the various program areas offered at the college. Downing scored the highest out of those students to receive this full tuition scholarship. It is his first choice school and he looks forward to attending next fall.
Also as a Blackstone Valley Tech student, Downing was a recent recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship awarded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He qualified for this award by scoring in the Advanced or Proficient categories on the first administration of the English Language Arts and Mathematics Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests.
Downing works at a car dealership in Westborough as part of the cooperative education program through Valley Tech.
