McNamee

BURLINGTON, VT- Laure-Abel (Moreau) McNamee, 92, of Shelburne, VT, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at The Arbors in Shelburne. She was the wife of the late Edward W. McNamee.
Born July 13, 1918, in Woonsocket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Odilas and Dora (Boiteau) Moreau.
She graduated from St. Clare High School in 1936 and later in life obtained a B.A. in Elementary Education from the former Catholic Teachers College in Providence. Subsequently she also attained a Masters Degree in Education from Providence College.
Mrs. McNamee was a devoted elementary school teacher for thirty-four years. She began her teaching career in 1958 at Jesus Marie Academy and subsequently taught for the Woonsocket Education Department initially as a French teacher in the city's elementary school program. She began teaching fourth grade students at Globe Park School in 1974 and continued there until her retirement in 1992. Immediately upon retirement she began volunteering at Globe Park tutoring students that needed help and providing assistance in the Library and to the school secretary and nurse. She derived great joy from these activities which she continued daily until her move to Vermont in January 2001. One of her favorite quotations came from Grandma Moses and serves to encapsulate her life philosophy: "I look back on my life like a good day's work; it was done and I feel satisfied with it. I was happy and contented and made the best of what life offered."
She was also an accomplished musician and piano teacher and a longtime member of the Woonsocket Beethoven Club where she performed as a pianist and organist.
She is survived by two sons, Paul E. McNamee of South Burlington, VT and Daniel M. McNamee of Seattle, WA.
Calling hours will be Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 6-8PM in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. A Memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to benefit the Library at Globe Park School, 192 Avenue A, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
