Roger L. Devuyst

STILWELL, KS- Roger DeVuyst, formerly of Woonsocket, R.I. died peacefully in his sleep on 2/7/2011 at the home of his son in Stilwell, KS. He was 91.
He was the husband of Cecile (Vigeant) DeVuyst who predeceased him in May of 2001.
Born in Woonsocket on March 27, 1919, Roger was the the son of the late Henri and Marie (Clerc) DeVuyst of Woonsocket.
For over 25 years he was the owner of ROGER'S RESTAURANT on Hamlet Ave. in Woonsocket before retiring in 1979.
Roger was an avid musician and lived in New York City after WW II where he performed in swing orchestras of the era.
During retirement he taught trumpet to private students and for 20 years he coached the trumpet section of the Woonsocket High School band under the direction of Mr. James Castaldi and Mr. Kevin Plouff.
He was a veteran of WWII serving with the 5th Army in Algeria, Tunisia, and Italy for "4 years, 3 months, and 19 days."
He participated in the Italian "D" Day invasion on the beaches near Salerno and Anzio, Italy.
He is survived by three sons, Richard of Stilwell, KS, Ronald of Memphis, TN and Russell of Montreal, P.Q. Canada.
He was the brother of the late Henri Jr. of Tucson, AZ, Raymond of Woonsocket, R.I. and Jeanne Seynave of Republic, WA.
He is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Clair Dobek of Providence, R.I. and Alice DeVuyst of Woonsocket, R.I., as well as 8 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved him and appreciated his musical talent, comical stories, quick wit, and one of a kind jokes.
Private memorial services for family and friends, as well as, internment in Notre Dame Cemetery in Pawtucket, R.I. will be arranged in late Spring.
