WOONSOCKET- Robert H. Clark, 91, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in the Oakland Grove Health Center.
His beloved wife of 60 years, Genevieve (Padden) Clark, died in 2006.
He leaves three sons, Richard and his wife Paula of Dudley, MA, Robert and his companion Patz Hoffman of Woonsocket, and Randall and his wife Joanne of Burrillville. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Harriett (Crawford) and Thomas Clark. Bob attended St. Charles School and graduated from LaSalle Academy, Providence.
A proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp's 8th Air Force, Bob served with distinction in the European theater as a member of the 96th Bombardment Group, the "Snetterton Falcons."
Robert was a Woonsocket firefighter until a work related injury forced him to retire. Robert spent most of his working life in Providence, retiring from BIF in 1983.
Robert excelled as a middle infielder as a young man, playing on several local all-star teams. He was a life long Red Sox fan and enjoyed their World Series successes in 2004 and 2007. Bob was also a loyal Patriot's fan and a frequent visitor to their pre-season camps both in Smithfield and Foxboro.
Robert's lifelong passions were learning and reading. He was an avid consumer of newspapers, often reading New York, Boston, and local papers daily.
Robert was a member of the VFW, Post 498, Blackstone and the Eight Air Force Historical Society and served as secretary of the Rhode Island Chapter.
All funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the MIGHTY EIGTH Air Force Museum, 175 Bourne Ave., Pooler, GA, 31322.
