BURRILLVILLE â Mount St. Charles scored five goals in the third period on Saturday night to break open a competitive contest and send the Mounties to an 8-1 victory over Burrillville.
The Mounties led 3-0 after two periods before blowing the game wide open in the final stanza. Mike Magerman, Trevor Plante and Ryan Berard each scored two goals for Mount, which is now 14-1-1 on the season with two games left on the league schedule.
âWe clinched a tie for first place with this win,â Mount coach David Belisle pointed out. The coach also learned that his team will not receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The top eight teams in the 10-team Division I have been invited to the postseason. Mount will play the No. 8 qualifier, which could be either Lincoln High or Barrington.
Belisle is looking forward to Mountâs next game, a 4:30 p.m. home contest on Wednesday afternoon against Catholic Memorial, one of the top teams in New England.

Northmen edged by SRA
PAWTUCKET â Based on their last two games, it seems St. Raphael Academy and North Smithfield are two evenly matched hockey teams.
The Saints avenged a 5-3 loss to the Northmen two weekends ago with a 5-4 victory on Saturday night at Lynch Arena. SRA improved to 3-11 in Division II-North with the win while the Northmen fell to 3-12. Neither team will qualify for the playoffs.
The Northmen got a goal from Devon Dube just 26 seconds into Saturday nightâs game but the Saints responded with three straight scores, the first coming just 18 seconds after Dubeâs goal when Richard Vichroski beat Brandon Caya for the tying goal.
Trailing 3-1 after one period, North Smithfield tied the game with two goals in the middle stanza. Dylan Narodowy and Matt Prudhome did the honors.
The Saints then took a 5-3 lead in the first 3:20 of the final period as Ty Karalis and Mark Carrara finished off scoring plays. Max Forte pulled North Smithfield within one goal at the 13:30 mark but Saints goalie Max Lemay stood firm over the final 90 seconds.
The Saints will visit first-place Cumberland (9-3-2) on Friday night at Adelard Arena. The Northmen host Cumberland on Saturday night at the R.I. Sports Center.
