WOONSOCKET- Jean Paul Guilbault, 97, formerly of Willow St., Woonsocket, died peacefully Thursday at Mt. St. Francis Home.
Born in St. Thomas Juliette, P.Q., Canada, he was a son of the late Raoul and Alma (Chartier) Guilbault. He was raised and educated in Canada and came in Woonsocket in 1944.
He was a 1939 graduate of the Institut Nazareth in Montreal where he completed his formal musical education. He was a well-known organist in Canada prior to moving to Woonsocket.
Mr. Guilbault was the head organist and choir master at Precious Blood Church from the 1940s though the 1960s.
Music was at the center of Jean Paul's life. His mission in life was to share his God given talent by providing sacred music for worship.
Mr. Guilbault also resided in Berlin, New Hampshire for several years during the 1960s and was the organist at Guardian Angels Church.
Jean Paul was an avid radio operator and a member of the Amateur Radio club.
He was the brother of Ida Trudeau of North Carolina, the late Adelard Guilbault (who died during WWII), Auguste Guilbault, Marie Rose Curodeau, and Anais Gingras. He is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Monday morning from 8:30 -9:45 am prior to Mass in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.
