Donald H. L'Heureux

LT. COL. (retired) Donald H. L'Heureux, 82, of Bedford, died suddenly on February 19, 2011.
COL. L'Heureux was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on January 30, 1929, and was the son of the late William J. and Margaret (O'Brien) L'Heureux.
He was raised in Woonsocket and was a graduate of Woonsocket High School.
He earned his BS in chemistry from the University of Rhode Island and later completed his master's degree at the University of Chicago and his MBA at Western New England College.
He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years as a pilot during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He traveled extensively and lived in several areas of the country during his military service. He retired in 1976 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his military retirement, he began working as a program manager for Computer Sciences Corp. and Analytical Systems Engineering Corp. both of Bedford.
COL. L'Heureux had lived in Bedford since 1971 where he was a member of St. Michael Parish.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Josephine (Rowley) L'Heureux, five children, Donald of Bedford, Michael and Aline Read of Chelmsford, Lawrence and his wife Ann Marie of Billerica, Laurie of Bedford and David and his wife, Barbara of Burlington and four grandchildren, Ryan, Dominic, Denise and Jennifer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Edwin L'Heureux.
His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, Thurs. at 10:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wed. from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., 9th Floor, Boston, MA 02108 Attn: Michael Grace.
Interment will be in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford with military honors.
