BURRILLVILLE- Louis F. Bonoyer Jr., 86, well known resident of Pascoag, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at Overlook Nursing Home. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Smith) Bonoyer.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Louis F. Sr. and Marion (Bard) Bonoyer.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the European theater as an Army Medic, receiving the "Combat Medic's Badge" as well as a Bronze Star for actions in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning to civilian life he received a degree in accounting from the former Hill College.
Louis's desire to stay close to his new and ever expanding family resulted in his employment as the Manager and accountant for the former Burrillville Motor Sales, a Pontiac Dealership, from 1948 to 1978. During this time he also maintained a business as a Public Accountant serving many of the town's people.
He was elected to serve on the Burrillville Town Council as well as the School Committee during the 60's and early 70's. In 1978 he accepted an appointment to assume the position of Burrillville Tax Collector.
He was a member of Pascoag Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 1023, a trustee and communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a board member of Jesse Smith Library and an active member of the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee.
Besides his wife, Louis is survived by six sons, John and Paul of Harrisville, Robert of Chepachet, Kevin of Marathon, FL, Gary of Buckeye, AZ and Daniel of Pascoag, one daughter, Angela Carney of Smithfield, twenty four grandchildren and thirty two great grandchildren. One son, James Bonoyer and one daughter, Marie Pafundi and three sisters, Rita Maroney, Veronica Landry and Theresa Bonoyer, predeceased him.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 9 am from the Boucher Funeral Home, 272 Sayles Ave, Pascoag with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Joseph's Church, 183 Sayles Ave, Pascoag. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 3 from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
