PASCOAG- Brother Philip A. Leroux, S.C., (Brother Edmond), 82, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, Provincial House, Pascoag, Rhode Island, died unexpectedly March 8, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, RI.
Born in Barrowsville (Norton), Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Edmond Leroux and Luna Marie (Gagner) Leroux.
Brother Philip entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart September 30, 1944 at Harrisville, Rhode Island. He pronounced his first vows on August 25, 1946 at Mont-Sacr-Coeur, Granby, Quebec, and his perpetual vows on June 29, 1952 at Mt. St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket, RI.
At St. Michaels College, Colchester, VT, Brother Philip completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree cum laude in 1954 and an MA in Teaching Sociology in 1961.
Brother Philip was a professed religious for 65 years, serving in a variety of assignments as a teacher in New England including St. Louis School, Nashua, NH, Sacred Heart School, Andover, MA, St. Dominic HS, Lewiston, ME, Sacred Heart Academy, Central Falls, RI, and Madawaska High School, Madawaska, ME, where he served as the Chair of the English Department. Brother Philip also ministered as a bookkeeper at Bishop Guertin HS, Nashua, NH, and in the Province Business Office, Pascoag, RI. He also served as Province Archivist.
Brother Philip is survived by his sister, Mrs. Eloise Allard of Norton, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Dolores Lange.
The wake will be held at the Provincial House, 685 Steere Farm Road, Pascoag, RI, Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel of the Provincial House at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Brothers' Cemetery in Pascoag. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brother Philips memory can be made to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Retirement Fund, Provincial Office, Brothers of the Sacred Heart, 685 Steere Farm Road, Pascoag, RI 02859. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home 1496 Victory Hwy. Oakland RI.
