Teresa I. Piekos

WHITE PLAINS, NY- Teresa (Terry) I. Piekos, retired elementary teacher at St. Anthony's School in Harrison and librarian for 24 years at the Port Chester Middle School, died Monday, March 7, at age 83.
She was the beloved wife for over 61 years of Thaddeus (Ted) J. Piekos, formerly Chairman of Mathematics at White Plains High School. She was born in Woonsocket, RI.
She is survived by three daughters, Dr. Jan M Owens of Racine, Wisconsin, Marilyn Woodside, Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Kittery, Maine, and Paula Piekos of White Plains.
She was a graduate of Mercy College (B.S.) and the University of Rhode Island Library School (M.L.S.)
Her parents were Nicholas Irza and Katherine Chudzik, both immigrants from Poland, circa 1902. She was predeceased by all of her siblings: brothers Walter, Matthew, Stanley and sisters Anna Grochowski, Sally Milano, Millie Monti, and Lee Geruso. She had 21 nieces and nephews.
She was an officer in the Parent-Teacher Association at Mamaroneck Avenue School, Ridgeway School, and the White Plains High School.
She was a member of the OLS Seniors Group and was a parishioner for 55 years.
During WWII, she was employed by the U.S. Rubber Co. making footwear for the army. Later she became an interior decorator for various companies.
Terry loved animals, nature, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and going anywhere, be it Europe, Bermuda, across the US or just local eateries like Rooster's Market or The Sugar Bowl. She was happy, affectionate and upbeat right to the end.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association, the Salvation Army or The St. Stanislaus Church. Services were held in New York. Burial will be in the Polish section of the St. Charles Cemetery, Section 3 -Lot 43.
