RANCHO BERNARDO, CA- Raymond "Ray" Norman Demers, age 82 of Rancho Bernardo, CA peacefully passed on Thursday, March 10, 2011 surrounded by his family. Ray, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, received his wings after living with dementia for nearly five years.
Ray was born on August 13, 1928 in Manville, RI, the second of five children to Rose & Arthur Demers, brother to Richard (deceased), Roger, Rita and Rainey.
Ray wed his lifetime love, Pauline Therese Janelle, on December 27, 1952 in Woonsocket, RI shortly after his return from Korea where he served as Private First Class in the Armys 160th Infantry. A resident of Woonsocket, RI until 1988, Ray worked as a Production Manager for both Hanora and Tech Industries. Upon his relocation to Rancho Bernardo, CA in 1988, Ray worked for Poway Unified School District where he was affectionately known as Mr. Ray. A passionate cook, novel enthusiast, beach-goer, movie spectator, swimmer, gardener and dancer, Ray held great appreciation for the simple things in life.
He will forever live in the hearts of his wife, Pauline; his children, Charles & Diane Demers, David & Johanne Demers, Linda Gagnon; his grandchildren, Nicole Ward, Kami Goe, Candice Potter, Brent Demers, Brittni Demers, Rebecca Gagnon, Ethan Gagnon; and his great-grandchildren Trevor, Corinne, Hudsyn, Gabrielle, Brady and Anthony. Services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 18th at 1:00PM at San Rafael Catholic Church at 17252 Bernardo Center Drive. Ray will be placed to rest at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma on April 8th. In lieu of flowers, Rays family requests commemorative donations to the Shiley-Marco Alzheimers Disease Research Center at UCSD for Dementia with Lewy Bodies research (www.adrc.ucsd.edu).
