ATTLEBORO, MA- Alfred Whittaker, 90, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Fall River, MA passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2011 at the LifeCare Center in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Juliette (Meyrelles) Whittaker.
Alfred was born in Fall River the son of the late Thomas and Lillie (Lyons) Whittaker.
He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School class of 1938. Mr. Whittaker then served his country as a First Class Petty Officer with the United States Coast Guard. He also completed a Theoretical and Practical Radio Operating Course with the US Coast Guard in 1943 in Atlantic City, NJ. After serving his country he went on to earn his degree in Accounting Business Management from the Thibodeau Business College in 1947. He worked as an accountant for Coronet Thermogravers Inc in Providence, RI, for twenty -five years. Alfred was active at one time with the Rhode Island Racing Pigeon Club and also with the Boy Scouts of America. He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
Survivors are two daughters: Sharon Condon and her husband Richard of Woonsocket, RI; Gail Pacheco of Woonsocket, RI; a son: Brian P. Whittaker and his wife Mary Beth of South Attleboro, MA; five grandchildren: Melanie and Melisa Forget, Wayne Whittaker, Christopher and Matthew Pacheco along with several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Wayne A. Whittaker; brother of the late Edith Clough, Harold and Lawrence Whittaker. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10am in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, relatives and friends are invited to attend, burial with MILITARY HONORS to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.
