John F. Dean, Sr.

MILLVILLE, MA- John F. Dean, Sr., 78, of Millville, passed away Wed. March 16, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Betty (DeFilippo) Dean.
In addition to his wife Betty of 52 years, he is survived by his children Mary Beth Gervais of TN, Jane Bonin of Millville, Caroline J. and her husband Troy Dale of TN, James J. and his wife Lisa Dean of Douglas, John F. and his wife Tracy Dean, Jr. of ME, and Jennifer and her husband Keith Wing of Millville; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary Agnes Dean and his siblings Patrick Dean, Joseph Dean, Charles Dean, and Mary DuPont.
He worked many years with the railroad including Amtrak, ConRail, and PennCentral.
Mr. Dean loved the Boston Red Sox and was devoted to his town of Millville.
Mr. Dean was a community activist, humanitarian, humorist, mentor, good Samaritan, prankster, volunteer, contributor, problem solver, and true friend to many.
He was the organizer and former coach of the Millville Little League and served as the leagues financial Vice-President. He also served as a constable, served on the Millville Recreational League, Blackstone-Millville Recreational League, and coached Babe Ruth.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who honored every fellow veteran through his devotion to the American Flag, always flown at half-mast at the time of a veterans death. In 1997, he was honored at the dedication of the John F. Dean, Sr. Little League Field at the Elementary school grounds.
Funeral services, with military honors, will be held Saturday March 19, 2011 at 9 AM from the Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St., Rte. 122, Uxbridge, MA 01569 followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 AM in St. Augustines Church, Lincoln St., Millville.
Visiting hours will be Fri. March 18, 2011 from 1 3 PM and 5 8 PM in the funeral home.
