BURRILLVILLE - The local Lions Club, in partnership with the Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department and Burrillville Public Works, is gearing up for the 12th Annual Burrillville Earth Day Cleanup to be held Saturday, April 23.
The event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. at the Burrillville Highway Department, 65 Union Avenue, Harrisville. The rain date is Saturday, April 30.
On April 23, volunteers will gather at the Burrillville Town Garage where designated cleanup areas will be assigned. Volunteers will then be dispersed into woodland areas, public centers, and park areas. Organizers are asking for area residents to lend a hand and volunteer a mere four hours of their weekend to clean up their community.
Bags and gloves will be provided and there will be free coffee and donuts for those participating. For groups needing community service hours, certificates will be printed on site.
The Parks and Recreation Department will hold a free raffle for those taking part in the cleanup.
Sponsoring the event this year are the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, which is providing the gloves and trash bags; Dan’s Management/Dunkin Donuts, which is providing coffee, hot chocolate and donuts; and Coastal Recycling, Inc., which is providing shirts for volunteers.
The Burrillville Lions Club has taken the lead in the Burrillville Earth Day for the past 11 years. Two of the objectives of the club is to foster an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community and to encourage service-minded people to serve their community by getting involved.
