Judge gives Landmark more time for suitors

March 24, 2011

WOONSOCKET – The bid deadline for parties interested in buying Landmark Medical Center was supposed to be tomorrow, but a Superior Court judge has agreed to give the hospital a few more days to sort through competing offers.
The new cutoff is Wednesday, said Bill Fischer, a spokesman for the hospital. But the original date of April 1 for the special master in charge of the hospital to submit to the court all bids, with a recommended winner, remains in force, he said.
Also, Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein will hold a hearing on April 6, as originally planned, to consider the recommendations of special master Jonathan Savage, the Pawtucket lawyer who has been running the financially stressed hospital under a court-supervised form of receivership since June 2008.
“As we continue to negotiate with a number of interested parties, the court's extension of the deadline to accept bids creates some welcomed breathing room and will improve our ability to attain the best bid possible,” Fischer said in a statement. “That said, it is important to note that the original timeline for the overall bidding process has not been extended.”

Woonsocket, and northern Rhode Island, do not need LandFill Hospital. The only solution is to close it! After all, they cater to welfare recipients and illegal aliens who NEVER pay for the services received. Going there is like going to South America! There are better hospitals within a 15-minute drive from the city. Do the world a favor and close this facility once and for all.

Comment to the "Good Doctor".... Obviously you're an intelligent person and to make a unintelliegent comment. This is the year 2011... Not 1950's.... Thats just the way it is all over the country... Not just in Rhode Island. So disappointing to hear all the negativity geared towards the "Welfare Recipients", etc. Obviously to you, its all about the $$ and the not the health and well being of the people of Rhode Island... You can rent the Bus and send them to Providence. Or do you "select" you're patients on "How they can pay"??? Which is also illegal!! You should be ashamed of yourself to call yourself the "Good Doctor"...
