Eleanor Laffey

UXBRIDGE - Eleanor (Podles) Laffey formerly of Uxbridge, Ma. and Woonsocket, R.I. passed of natural causes at the age of 95, on March 24 in Santa Monica, Ca., Born in Uxbridge on Nov. 18, 1915 she was the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Holda) Podles and has lived the last 22 years in CA.
Survivors are daughters, Sheila Laffey of Santa Monica, Nancy Mazza of Moorpark, Ca, grandson Brent Mazza of Parker, Co. and grand-daughter, Marisa Mazza in Honolulu, HI., brothers, Theodore Podles of Dudley, Ma., Walter Podles of Uxbridge, Ma. and Edward Podles of North Uxbridge. A daughter Joan Nelson passed in 2007 and her husband, William Laffey, in 2000.
Eleanor graduated from Uxbridge High School and Worcester State Teachers College and taught at Blanchard School and also several grades at the one room Ironstone School, now on the Historic Register, both in the Uxbridge area. She was the Education Chairman of the Uxbridge Womens Club. She will be greatly missed.
Her funeral will be held Fri. April 1. The mass will be at 11 a.m. in St. Marys Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd. Thurs. March 31 from 5-6 p.m. and Fri. April 1 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wetlands Defense Fund, 322 Culver Blvd. #317, Playa Del Ray, CA 90203.
