Irene T. Charpentier

WOONSOCKET- Irene T. (Roy) Charpentier passed away March 29, 2011 at the Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Centre surrounded by family and friends. She had celebrated her 90th birthday there on March 7th. She was the widow of Edgar B. Charpentier to whom she had been married for sixty-three years at the time of his death in 2002. She was the daughter of the late Napolean and Roseanna Roy.
Irene was born and raised in nearby Massachusetts, but spent most of her adult life in Slatersville in a home that Edgar built for his family. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of the No. Smithfield Senior Citizens.
Irene was the mother of twelve children: Normand and his wife Ellen of Harrisville, Edgar and his companion Judy of Coventry, Donald and his wife Sara of Brookfield, WI, Richard and his wife Christine of Matthews, NC, Theresa of Woonsocket, Linda Nadeau and her husband Paul of Blackstone, Robert of Pascoag, Frank of Uxbridge, Paul and his wife Lynn of Glocester, John and his wife Bonnie of Burriville and the late Pauline Simpers and Connie Cournoyer. She is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition, Irene leaves her brother Louis R. Roy and her sister Doris St. Pierre and her husband Raymond all of Woonsocket. She was predeceased by her brothers Leo, Eugene, Ernest and John and her sister Lillian (Ladouceur) Fener.
Over the years, Irene held several jobs at various local businesses including Tupperware, Polytop and Palco, ending with her retirement from several years of work at A.T. Cross. But Irene's career was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She loved spending time with her family and making sure they were well fed. She loved square dancing, camping, going to the beach and playing cards, but she loved all of those things most when she shared them with family. She was proud to say that she had a large family and even prouder to say they were "all good kids." Thanks Mom. We'll all miss her so much.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 beginning at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., No. Smithfield. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688
