WOONSOCKET- Vincent "Vin" T. Dwyer, 83, died April 5, 2011, at the Friendly Home in Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Florence Penny (Duval) Dwyer.
A lifelong resident of Woonsocket, Vincent was born on Feb. 20, 1928, to the late Vincent and Margaret (Kennedy) Dwyer, Sr. He served with the Occupational Forces in Japan during World War II.
A graduate of Providence College, Vincent was an educator at Woonsocket Junior High School from 1952-1983 and also served as a football and basketball coach, as well as athletic director for the High School. He spent several years as an umpire for both baseball and softball and was a member of the Fairmont Post.
Besides his wife, Vincent is also survived by three sons: Brian of Worcester, Mass., Kerry of Cumberland and Bruce of Leicester, Mass.; six daughters: Deborah Gernt, Karin Auclair, Jayne Goodwin and Jill Poisson all of North Smithfield, Doreen McQuade of Harrisville and Kelli Luca of Chepachet; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Paul, of Narragansett; and two sisters, Margaret Dwyer of Woonsocket and Brenda Colihan of Silver Springs, Md.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Woonsocket. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, Mass. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the Keene-Brown Funeral Home at 445 Greenville Rd., North Smithfield, R.I.
