WOONSOCKET- Ruth M. (Richard) Tempest-Shaw, 92, of Woonsocket, died Thursday, April 7, 2011. She was the wife of the late James "Buster" Tempest and the late Wallace Shaw. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Eva (Lirette) Richard.
Ruth worked twenty years as an Assembler for A.T. Cross, Lincoln, retiring in 1980 and had also worked as a bookkeeper for several area businesses. A member of the Woonsocket Senior Center, Cub Scout Den Leader, member of Woonsocket High School Band Booster Club and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, she loved gardening and doing needlepoint work.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristine Gosselin and her husband Douglas of No. Smithfield, two sons, Jeff Tempest and his wife Wendy of Redding, CA and James Tempest of No. Scituate, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Greg Brodeur and sister of the late Paul Ricard.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 9AM from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5-7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
