Town may consider reopening Harrisville dam

April 21, 2011

BURRILLVILLE - As a child, Burrillville Town Councilman Stephen N. Rawson spent many a morning exploring the natural beauty of Mill Pond and the gushing waterfall at the Harrisville dam on East Avenue.
"I spent most of my life on and around that pond," he says. "I caught my first trout below the falls when I was four or five years old. I spent so many hours down there I can't tell you."
At a recent meeting of the Town Council, Rawson voiced concern that today's children are missing out on the same experience because the area below the falls, which for years has been a favorite spot for local anglers, has been closed off by the town with a fence and no-trespassing sign because of public safety and liability concerns.
Rawson wants the council to reconsider re-opening the area.

I think the town should buy bubble wrap for all of it's tax paying citizens!

I do not live in Burrillville any more but I visit there often and I really would like to see the fence taken down at the dam. I think the fence takes away a lot of the beauty of the dam.
I am a firm believer that if anyone wanted to get into the fenced area then the fence will not stop them, and as a lock does not prevent a crook from breaking in your house, all that does is keep the honest ones out.
P.S.
Then again this is just my take on this issue.
Thank`s AL.
