Tight squeeze

April 21, 2011

Woonsocket Police and Fire respond to yet another tractor trailer that crashed into the P&W Railroad bridge on Main Street at Depot Square shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday. The driver, Bill Rinker of Altoona, Pa., of Black Dog Trucking, did not see the 12-foot marker (clearly visible at left) and thought it was the same clearance as the northbound side of the bridge, which is marked at 14' 6".

Not sure that the city can be blamed for the accident but it would probably help if an earlier warning sign was posted further down the street.
Trucks have been hitting the bridge for years, I remember seeing my first wedge back in 1967 when working part time on Main Street when I was in high school.
As to the comment of clearance being 14'6", same as northbound side of the bridge - isn't Main street one way?
Then again, it's easier to blame the city for everything instead of taking responsibility for ones actions.

yeah ok, Woonsocket can do more to keep this from happening and do they ? they can have the bridge paited a florecent color, and more signs visible coming from North Main, I bet most or if not all the trucks that hit the bridge were coming down North Main st. Woonsocket do you know how many people lossed their jobs because of your negligence ? also they should have no parking on the left side from Federal st to the bridge. that would eliminate most accidents, you don't put signs on the bridge and noway to make a turn to avoid hitting it. Woonsockets Fault all the way,, Truckers Sue Woonsocket for this.
