BLACKSTONE, MA - Alfred "Fred" Trottier, 90, of Blackstone, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 69 years of Claire R. (Cartier) Trottier.
Born in Woonsocket on June 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Ludger and Bernadette (Sauvageau) Trottier. He was the loving father of A. Gerard Trottier and his wife Helen of Blackstone, MA, Suzanne Luebke and her husband Donald of Jackson, WI, Monique Boyajian and her husband Bart of Smithfield, RI, Aline Martineau and her husband Emile of Pawleys Island, SC, Annette Ansay and her husband George of Melbourne, FL, Lise Muller and her husband Matthew of Lindenhurst, IL; and was the beloved Pepr of 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Viateur, Ernest, Lucien, Eugene, and Raymond Trottier, Juliette Leclerc, Lillian Ducharme, Sr. Cecile Trottier PM, and Claire Marechal.
He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines and New Guinea as a Chief Warrant Officer in the 346th Transportation Corps Harbor Craft Company. He was a recipient of the following commendations: Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, New Guinea Campaign Star, Philippine Liberation Medal with One Bronze Star, American Theatre Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was an electrician with IBEW Local #99, and a long time member of many organizations in the Woonsocket and Blackstone area including: VFW; American Legion; St. Joseph's Veteran's; DAV; Franco-American Club and the Millerville Men's Club. He was a Boy Scout Leader at St. Theresa's and also proudly served as captain of the Blackstone Station 2 Volunteer Fire Department for many years. His love of travel and his avid reading made him knowledgeable in many areas. His family will miss him dearly.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Theresa Church, 630 Rathbun St., Blackstone, MA. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, RI. Visiting hours are on Monday, April 25, from 4 to 8PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
