BELLINGHAM- William D. "Bill" Nelson, 78, of Bellingham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Metrowest Medical Center at Framingham Union Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Loretta J. (Leach) Nelson.
Born in Boston on April 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Herbert and Anne (Hennebry) Nelson. He was the loving father of William D. Nelson, Jr. of Bellingham, MA and Timothy P. Nelson of Charlotte, NC. He was the brother of John D. Nelson of Holliston, MA, Mary Lou Ballard of Framingham, MA, and the late James and Herbert Nelson. He also leaves his many nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Bill".
A resident of Bellingham for over 40 years formerly of Framingham, Bill was a Customer Service Manager at TRW in Cambridge and Westminster, MA for over 30 years until retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Corporal, and receiving the Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Past Post Commander Post #6260 of Wayland, MA and Past District Commander MA District 4. He was a retired member of the Bellingham Sportsman's Club and was an avid Red Sox Fan. He was known for his big smile and found good in all for him, Life was the end of a perfect day. Devoted to his family, he will be greatly missed.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 28, at 9:00AM from CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St., Bellingham. Interment will follow at Scott Cemetery, Center St., Bellingham.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday, April 27, from 5 to 8PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
