WOONSOCKET- Reverend Carl E. Guiney, 69, of Harris Ave., died Friday, April 29, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Faith E. (Shepherd) Guiney whom he married June 29, 1968.
Born in Lafayette, IN, he was the son of the late Earl E. and Kathryn E. (Turner) Guiney.
Reverend Guiney was a 1964 graduate of Central Bible College in Springfield, MO.
He was an accomplished pianist and during his college years he was a member of the Revivaltime Radio Choir and was the manager and accompanist for the Messengers Quartet.
Rev. Guiney moved to Woonsocket in 1964 at the age of 22 to become the founding Pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Woonsocket where he ministered for 45 years. In addition to his role as pastor, he held leadership positions within the Assemblies of God organization and served fifteen years as an Assembly of God official for RI and Southeast MA. He shared his musical gifts at area churches by playing the piano at many special events throughout his ministry. Rev. Guiney loved the people of Woonsocket and was very active in the community. He served on the board of Ballou Home for the Aged in Woonsocket for over twenty years. He also held offices in the Woonsocket Clergy Association. Rev. Guiney had a great love and appreciation for the men and women who have served our country and he participated in numerous events and activities with the Greater Woonsocket United Veterans Council. Rev. Guiney valued education and encouraged people to pursue further education. He took pride in the diversity of his congregation, which included people from varied backgrounds, and eleven different countries. Upon his retirement in 2010 he was named Pastor Emeritus of First Assembly of God Church, Woonsocket. Throughout his life, Rev. Guiney's most important purpose was to live for God and share the love of Christ with the community he loved.
Besides his wife he is survived by three children, Carl Guiney Jr. and his wife Jessica of Woonsocket, Heather Pubols and her husband Jeff of Cape Town, South Africa, Ashley Guiney of Woonsocket, and three grandchildren.
Rev. Guiney, the oldest in his family is also survived by three brothers, Paul Guiney of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Dale Guiney of Lafayette, IN, and Glen Guiney of Indianapolis, IN.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 4-8PM at First Assembly of God Church, 420 Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2 PM at First Assembly of God Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 727, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904-9826.
