WOONSOCKET- Gloria C. Desmarais, 80, died peacefully Friday morning at home surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Robert W. Desmarais. They were married on October 16, 1948.
Born in Burrillville, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Annette (Bois) Beaudreau.
She was a resident of Woonsocket for most of her life and later lived in Cumberland. Mr. and Mrs. Desmarais also spent several years living in Boynton Beach, FL. during their retirement.
Gloria's life centered on being a homemaker. She reveled in the music of her youth, the memorable sounds of the 40's and 50's. Some of her favorite things in life were movies, chocolates, laughing, and taking in the beauty of springtime flowers. Gloria also loved to travel around the country. She will be remembered by her family as being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by a son Wayne A. Desmarais, and his companion Rhonda Chabot, of Woonsocket, a daughter Patricia Tucker, and her husband Donald Tucker, Jr., of Savannah, GA. She was the sister of Richard Beaudreau of Millville, Jeanne Rheaume of Woonsocket, and Jacqueline Griffin of Bellingham. She was the grandmother of Matthew and Kelsey Desmarais, Angela Wilson, Allison Chumley, and Ryan Lanier, and great-grandmother of Shelly Rose Wilson and Ava Grace Wilson.
Her funeral service will be Friday at 1:00 pm in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday from 6-8 pm.
