Frances (Durkin) Clifford
CUMBERLAND- Frances (Durkin) Clifford, 88, formerly of Old Diamond Hill Road died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Clifford, Jr.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Helen C. (Schmeider) Durkin, she had lived in Woonsocket for over 45 years before moving to Emerald Bay Manor in Cumberland 10 years ago.
She was a graduate of Classical High School and the University of Rhode Island where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
Frances was a social worker in long-term care for the State of Rhode Island for 23 years, retiring in 1986.
Frances's career in social work was a passion she carried into her personal life. Simply put, Frances was empathetic, thoughtful, generous and kind and, a devoted mother and a good friend. She loved animals and she loved to dance.
She was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland and a former member of Aprs-Midi Club of Woonsocket.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail C. Torinese and her husband, James of Bristol and Constance M. Clifford and her husband, Paul Benoit of Astoria, OR; one son, Charles L. Clifford, III of Woonsocket; three grandsons, Daniel, James and Matthew Benoit. She was the sister of the late Elizabeth Murray and Joseph E. Durkin. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and many good friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held MONDAY, MAY 9 at 10 A.M. in St. John Vianney Church, 3655 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA.
