HANDIWORK

May 7, 2011

Bob Billington, left, president of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, gets a lesson in creating dough figurines by Taiwanese artist Chun-Te Wu during a daylong apprenticeship Thursday for Beacon Charter High School for the Arts in Woonsocket. The dough is made from a mixture of rice and flour, kneaded together, cut, and colored to shape
animals, flowers and figurines. It is a folk tradition in Taiwan. Forty-five students were selected to take part.
