WOONSOCKET- George H. Richard, 89, of Woonsocket passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of the late Therese M.J. (Morisseau) Richard.
Born in Woonsocket on October 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Walter D. and Marie Rose (Allain) Richard.
He was the loving father of George H. "Sonny" Richard, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Baltimore, MD, Gerald M. Richard and his wife Catherine of Kennebunkport, ME; and his cherished three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Louise Fontaine of Warwick, RI, Anita Benzino of De Bary, FL, and the late Raymond M. Richard and Bertha R. "Becky" Marcoux. He also leaves his nieces and nephews.
Mr. Richard was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket and worked as a supervisor of meter reading at Blackstone Valley Electric for 38 years until retiring in 1986. He was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran attaining the rank of Baker Second Class and received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the VFW Post 263, and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church.
A Committal Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at 12:00 Noon at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery Chapel, Wrentham Road, Bellingham, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. At the request of the family no flowers and there are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or to a charity of your choice. A month minders Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:00AM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket, RI. Arrangements are under the direction of Cartier's Funeral Home, Bellingham, MA.
