Richard G. Crotty
PASCOAG- Richard G. Crotty, 85, of Pascoag, R.I. and formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 in Pascoag.
He leaves his wife of 19 years, Phyllis J. (Dekker) Crotty; three sons, Richard G. Crotty Jr. and Mary Beth Allan of Limerick, Me., James A. Crotty III and Edward J. Crotty, both of Worcester, two stepsons, Mark R. and David J. Visser and his wife Danielle, two grandchildren, Logan and Cameron Visser, all of Douglas, a sister, Anne M. Crotty, four nieces, Sheilagh Crotty, Tara Fitzgerald-Jenkins, all of Worcester, Anne Reyburn of Phoenix, and Kathleen G. Hurley of Millbury.
His first wife Faith L. (Brothers) Crotty, his brother James A. Crotty Jr., his sister Ruth F. Fitzgerald, and his stepson Peter M. Visser, predeceased him.
Dick was born in Worcester, son of son of James A. and Ellen G. (McGuiness) Crotty. He attended Classical High School, the College of the Holy Cross and Boston University Law School.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater including the U.S. occupation of China.
He practiced law in Worcester for 56 years. He began his career in 1952 with his father and brother in the law firm of Vaughan, Esty, Crotty and Mason. Later, he was a partner in its successor firm, Mason, Crotty, Dunn and MacCarthy. He completed his career in sole private practice, retiring in 2008.
He was a member of the Massachusetts and Worcester County bar associations, of which he was president in 1967. He was a former member of Worcester and Oyster Harbors country clubs.
Calling hours are Friday, May 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. Other arrangements are private.
