CUMBERLAND- Edward L. Gauthier, passed away Sunday. He was the loving husband of Vivian (St. Germain) Gauthier, they would have been married for 55 years this month.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Edward and Amy (Galipeau) Gauthier. Mr. Gauthier resided in Cumberland for the past 48 years.
He was employed by General Motors as a fork lift operator for 34 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a World War II US Navy Veteran, achieving various medals and awards.
He was a member of the VFW Post 11519, St. Joseph's Hall.
He was a former member of St. Joseph Senior Citizen Club, Manville-Albion Golden Agers and the Cumberland Senior Citizen Club.
Mr. Gauthier enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox.
He was the devoted father of his son Robert Gauthier of Cumberland and two daughters; Patricia Daigneault of Cumberland and Deborah Major of Seattle, WA. He was the devoted grandfather of H. Michael Gauthier and Lauren Gauthier. He was the father of the late Ronald and Henry Gauthier and brother of the late Henry Gauthier, Arthur Gauthier, Rita Reynolds and Adeline Fournier.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Wednesday 8 AM to 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence 02904.
