McGair named R.I. Sportswriter of the Year by NSSA

Steve Hyder, the radio voice of the Pawtucket Red Sox, left, joins Call/Times sports writer Brendan McGair after McGair received the Rhode Island Sportswriter of the Year for 2010 from the National Sports writers and Sportcasters Association at the 2011 Awards ceremony in Salisbury, North Carolina on May, 16, 2011. Hyder was named the Co-Sportscaster of the year along with Steve McDonald, the voice of URI football and men's basketball. A 2003 graduate of Providence College, McGair started working at the Pawtucket Times in Jan. 2005. He becomes the first winner from The Times to win the award since late sports editor Ted Mulcahey in 1963.
