Mounties, Clippers grab big Division I-North victories

Mount St. Charles pitcher Kristen Rodrigues fired a complete game four-hitter in MSC's 4-1 win over La Salle on Tuesday.

WOONSOCKET – Kristen Rodrigues spun a complete game four-hitter as Mount St. Charles climbed back over the .500 mark courtesy of Tuesday’s 4-1 win over La Salle Academy.
The Mounties improve to 9-8 in Division I-North with one game remaining, Saturday at home against Smithfield.
Rodrigues collected four strikeouts while walking no one. Taylor Messier finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored while Emily Hendricks went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Hannah Gardella delivered a RBI double in the second inning.

Cumberland shuts out Smithfield
CUMBERLAND – It’s all there for the taking for Cumberland High.
The Clippers tuned up for Thursday night’s showdown with Lincoln High by posting a 10-0 mercy-rule triumph over Smithfield High Tuesday at Tucker Field.
The win secures a top-four seed for Cumberland (13-3) when the Division I playoffs begin next week.
Beth Paul, who struck out six batters and walked one to end up with a three-hitter, and Kelsey Cahill each collected two apiece for the Clippers, now winners of nine straight.
Kendra Plante and Kaitlyn Pluta each drove in two runs.

Johnston blanks North Smithfield
JOHNSTON – Johnston’s Alaina DeNoncour fired a complete shutout in her club’s 7-0 blanking of North Smithfield Tuesday.
Jess Tremblay finished with seven strikeouts for the Northmen, now 9-5 in Division II-North and in a tie for first place in the standings with Ponaganset High

Saints remain winless
PAWTUCKET – St. Raphael Academy dropped to 0-15 in Division II-East after falling to Classical, 4-0, Tuesday at the Hank Soar Complex.
The Saints, who managed just one hit, close out the season Wednesday at Moses Brown.

Warwick Vets tops E.P. for first win
EAST PROVIDENCE – Warwick Vets scored four times in the eighth inning before holding on to a 9-7 verdict over East Providence Tuesday at Pierce Field.
The win was the first of the season for the Hurricanes, who had dropped their previous 15 league contests.
E.P., which held leads of 4-2 and 5-4, scored two runs of its own in the last of the eighth but could not extend the game any further.
The Townies now stand at 6-11 in Division I-Central with one game remaining in the season, which takes place Thursday at Cranston West.

Burrillville puts away North Providence
BURRILLVILLE – Mikayla Fernandez went 2-4 with a run scored and Andrea Griffin went 2-3 with two RBI to lead Burrillville to a 7-0 win over North Providence in Division II-North play Tuesday.
The Broncos are 8-6. The Cougars fall to 7-8.
