MANVILLE- Norman A. Roy, 82, of Gousy St., Manville, died Monday evening at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Violette L. (Bourget) Roy. They were married on February 13, 1954.
Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Alfred and Eva (Janvier) Roy and remained a proud lifelong resident of his hometown.
Mr. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In his early years he was employed at the Quonset Naval Shipyard.
Norman was the owner and proprietor of Roy's Garage in Manville for over 50 years. He provided his services from the Old River Road garage, continuing the business stated by his father, and on the site of what was his grandfather's blacksmith shop. Norman was very dedicated to his work and always went above and beyond to serve his customers regardless of day or time.
Mr. Roy served as a firefighter with the Manville Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 22 and the Manville Sportsman's Club. Norman was also a locomotive enthusiast and constructed the wrecker vehicles used in his business.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by three daughters, Nancy D'Anjou (& Joe Roberts), Lynne L'Heureux (& Timothy Tweedie), and Linda Duffy (& Bernard Duffy, Jr.) all of Manville. Five grandchildren, Nicole and Kevin L'Heureux, Monique Kalakowski, Brian Duffy, and Daniel D'Anjou. He was the brother of the late Maurice Roy and Irene Brooks. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 am from the Menard- Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8 pm.
