Hearing on Cumberland budget slated June 1

CUMBERLAND — Mayor Daniel J. McKee is proposing a $79.1 million budget for fiscal 2011, which reflects an increase over the current $76.2 fiscal year budget, according to information released by the mayor's office last week.
Included in the overall budget is McKee's proposed level-funded school budget, which is $1 million less than what the School Department had requested in funding for next year. Residents will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed spending plan at a public hearing hosted by the Town Council's Finance Committee on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
A second public hearing followed by a first vote on the budget will be held June 6. The council will take a final vote on the spending plan on June 13. Both meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at Town hall.
The projected property tax rate increase based on McKee's proposed level-funded budget is projected at 36 cents.
The budget as proposed provides for no salary increases for town employees.
