WOONSOCKET- Gerard A. Hemond, 93 of Lefrancois Blvd. passed away at home on Sunday June 12, with his family by his side.
He is the wife of Rena T. (Andreoni) Hemond. Mr. & Mrs. Hemond were married for 67 years.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Phydime and Selfride (Fontaine) Hemond.
Mr. Hemond was the owner and operator of Hemond Inc. for forty years.
Mr. Hemond was Veteran of the United States Air Force serving in WW11 and obtained the rank of Sargent.
He was a former member of the Northern R.I. Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiwanis Club. He was also inducted to the Woonsocket High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
Gerard was an avid tennis player until the age of 87 years old and played at Fore Court in Cumberland, R.I.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Janet and husband Sonny Robidoux, of N. Smithfield, R.I., Two sons, Dennis Hemond and his wife Diane, of Wellesley, MA. Donald Hemond and his wife Sarah of Warren, R.I. He is also survived by five granddaughters, four great-granddaughters and three great grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. In St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket, R.I. Burial with Military Honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I.
Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours are Monday June 20, from 5-8 P.M. in the S. DiPardo Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1583 Diamond Hill Rd. Woonsocket, R.I.
In lieu of flowers donations in Gerard's memory can be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 N. Main St. Providence, R.I. 02903
