Police charge city man with sexually assaulting 25-year-old pregnant woman

June 24, 2011

WOONSOCKET – A city man was indicted Thursday on charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old pregnant woman and then trying to persuade a witness to lie about the attack.
The Providence County grand jury charged Jason Nickerson, 30, with four counts of domestic first-degree sexual assault and attempting to procure perjury.
Nickerson is also charged with one count each of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual assault.
The crimes allegedly took place in Woonsocket between April 10 and July 21, 2009, said Amy Kempe, spokeswoman for the attorney general.
Police reports say Woonsocket police began investigating the case on April 11 when they responded to a report of a rape at Nickerson's Roberts Street home.
The victim told police she was coming out of the shower when Nickerson grabbed hold of her, bound her legs and arms with a pair of men's neckties, then beat and raped her. She told police she was six weeks pregnant with Nickerson's child at the time and that Nickerson knew about the pregnancy.
Nickerson's four-year-old boy was also home at the time of the attack, the police reports say.
The police reports indicate Nickerson had been residing in the same domicile as the victim for at least a year and two months.
Nickerson is to be arraigned in Superior Court on July 13.
