EXTREME MAKEOVER -- Among its renovations, The Pines adds 39-seat pub

July 10, 2011

NORTH SMITHFIELD — The Pines Restaurant, a dining institution for the past 46 years, has undergone a serious makeover with the addition of the "Pines Pub," a 39-seat pub boasting six big-screen plasma televisions, a fully-stocked horseshoe bar and an exclusive pub menu offering everything from cheeseburgers to lobster rolls.
The new pub tops a long list of renovation and remodeling improvements that have either been completed or are in the process of getting started under the new management that came on board in March.
"The pub is finished and we're getting some rave reviews from customers," says Kevin Falardeau, the restaurant's co-owner and manager.
The 30-by-30-foot pub area was built from an existing space at the restaurant separate from the main dining room and features six tables with seating for up to 39 people; one 60- and one 40-inch plasma TV; three 42-inch plasma sets; and additional restrooms.
"The Pines Pub is the place you want to be to watch the big game," Falardeau says. "Our pub menu is one of the best in the area where you can get everything from prime rib sandwiches to onion rings."
The idea for the pub is part of a remodeling master plan Falardeau has devised to modernize the look of the restaurant, a family-style eatery that was opened by the Peloquin family in 1965.
"I think the building was kind of stuck in the 1960's and that it was time for a fresh look," he said.
Falardeau, a member of the Peloquin family, says the remodeling plan also calls for updating the kitchen - which has been completed - and remodeling the old bar area into a cozy lounge. Part of that project, which will begin soon, will be to re-activate the giant 1930's-era fireplace.
"Our lounge is going to be the perfect place to have dinner in front of a fireplace on a cold winter's day," says Falardeau.
The Pines Restaurant is both a family-style restaurant and the ideal site for a variety of special functions. The Pines holds an atmosphere of casual dining with the tradition of timely and efficient service. The restaurant is fully handicapped accessible.
The casual family dining room atmosphere that The Pines is known for has been around as long as its famous family-style chicken dinners and beef entrees. The menu ranges from children's menus starting at $5.99, to a wide variety of appetizers, poultry selections, beef and seafood entrees. Specials are served up on Wednesdays from 4 to 8:30 p.m.
Ideally suited for groups from 35 to 225, The Pines banquet facility can adapt to meet whatever your personal needs will be, while planning your special event. The staff is available throughout the duration of your function, to provide personal but timely service, to maintain a memorable experience.
The Pines' main goal is to allow its guests to be able to have the choice of our fixed menu, or one customized to better accommodate their needs. The totally private banquet room and bar, outside fields, and pine groves also allow for a great atmosphere for memorable pictures and videos.
